Selective collection of bio-waste in a non-intensive urban region – Producers’ characterization

The European circular economy targets and waste policies have gradually focused on bio-waste, which is considered one of several key streams urgently needed to develop strategies for their selective collection. In non-intensive urban regions, a collection challenge due the dispersion bio-waste producers. This work intended characterize producers, in Planalto Beirão region (Portugal) define management. center Portugal composed 19 municipalities. methodology involved collecting data from non-domestic producers Portuguese databases. were divided into 4 categories: HORECA sector (hotels, restaurants coffee shops), Food commerce (wholesale retail sale), Tea houses Social services (education activities social support with without accommodation). analyzed categories indicated that hotels, shops represented 46% followed by commerce, 33%, 17% 4%, respectively. Viseu was determined as municipality highest potential implement successful bio-waste. region, must be done door-to-door, higher-density areas. rural areas, valorization should introduced locally or community.
